about

And then there you are,
Walking slowly towards the edge of the rock, Finding the silence between the waves.
There you are,
Drifting in and out of time, That half-dead ghost of you.
It falls slowly,
The light,
Pulling downwards, Over you.
There’s a flicker on the horizon, And then it’s gone.
Then it’s gone.

- Simon Longman

Artist notes -

Somnium Quies I/II was recorded direct to tape using a Tascam Porta Studio, Solo Baritone Guitar & effects. Recorded at home, the process was a live improvisation without any edits or additional takes as to capture the spontaneity & intent in the moment.

Somnium Quies is heavily inspired by the musical form of the ‘Nocturne’ & evokes feelings of melancholia, Ma & Meditation. In Latin, ‘Somnium Quies’ translates to ‘Restful Dream’ or ‘Quiet Sleep’. The work is akin to an analogue photograph or a memory, a moment in time captured through sound.

Somnium Quies is an evolving work utilising the live process. The work aims to develop and change over time through personal development & growth.
